Ajule
Kings & Pawns Volume 1: Memoirs of a Drug Lord
Grimm Score: 5 out of 5
The mixtape starts with “Understand”, a dark story of Ajule’s life in the streets, dealing with hardship and envy while trying to turn it all around. The chronicles continue as the gunshot firing “Atlanta Doe” and the artistic 'been there, done that' concept of “Tell U All About It” featuring Stank lets listeners know that this is not an ordinary mixtape. “Glow” featuring Teff Deezy is a great addition to the mixtape with the excellent marching band instrumental mixed with Ajule’s seasoned flow. Other notable songs in this masterpiece include “Already Know” featuring Bradd Young as Ajule raps about the perfect fling with a female. Aye Verb makes an appearance on “Wet, Wet” with Ajule and Verb in an ingenious story about how they treat the easy chicks.
The creative “Chess and Checkers” interludes in between the music are worth mentioning, since the skits add a nice touch to the “Kings & Pawns” mixtape. If you’re looking for street songs Ajule also provides that with the Teff Deezy, Hittmann Holla and Remy Tha Don featured “Put Yo Hood Up”. The catchy reggae sounding “Here I Am” featuring Sineca is probably one of the most gangsta joints on the mixtape. “Walk On By” has Ajule talking about how he should be on top with 5 mics as he spits, “With a flow that will take Drake and Wayne’s spot in one night/ I’m that nice/ Speak Nelly, don’t even think twice/ What do you do when your dreams turn into nightmares?/ Success so close, you can’t grasp it even though it’s right there.” The memoirs conclude with a dark and gloomy produced track with sincere lyrics on “Lord Don’t Let Me Die” featuring Teff Deezy that kind of follow up on the topics of the aforementioned song.
"Kings & Pawns Volume 1: Memoirs of a Drug Lord" is a classic disc that will give listeners many stories of a lyricist who deserves to be documented. "Kings & Pawns Volume 1" gets a Grimm Score of 5 out of 5.

Below is a random tirade I went on about St. Louis hip hop... these are becoming rare because
1. I don't have time to regurgitate the same shit I've been preaching for over a decade
and
2. Judging from from tweets, status updates and what I see cats doing on a day to day, its a complete waste of time. The majority of those who would benefit from listening are hell bent on finding out the hard way... so who am I to throw a life preserver at someone who knew…
