Born and raised on the north side of St. Louis, Mo, notorious for producing some of St. Louis' worst criminals, Sylk Smoov was determined to avoid the violence that the inner city streets delivered. Focusing on his music Smoov managed to save enough money to record a demo. Sending over 100 tapes across the United States it would be only two months before he received the response that changed his life.
On January 1, 1991, only five minutes pass the celebration of a new year a call was made. Total Tracks Productions had heard the cunning verbal poetry that Smoov would be known for and loved him. Producing such stars as DJ Quik and AMG, Total Tracks knew they had a star on their hands. They were so impressed that an offer was made on that cold winter night, five minutes past midnight right over the phone and later signing with Mercury Records making him St. Louis's first nationally known Hip Hop artist signed to major label.
The birth of a star was anticipated with the release of the self-entitled album, Sylk Smoov. Two of the album's songs were instant hits. "Klientele" and club favorite
"Trick Wit a Good Rap" received national attention. The Source Magazine gave "Sylk Smoov" a slamming three and half MIC's and "Trick Wit a Good Rap" peaked at number four on the Billboard's Hot Rap Singles chart in 1992. With fame and a love for music Smoov couldn't go wrong. Or could he?
After being featured on the song and music video "Drop Down" from the 1994 House Party 3 Motion Picture Soundtrack the road was becoming bumpy for Smoov. His management team had made a series of bad decisions, Smoov and Mercury Records parted ways. But nothing would keep this lyrical genius quiet.
After almost a decade Sylk Smoov has resurfaced. With his own independent label, Cat Action Muzik, his first featured artist is none other than Sylk Smoov himself. "Cat Action 25-8" is a collaboration of pure genius destined to take the savvy lip doctor to his natural place #1.
Produced by Hype Dawg aka The Beat Creature, who has worked with Luke, Mad Flava, The Dawg Pound and many more. This album is filled with hot tracks- a sure fire starter delivering one hot blaze after another. From catchy rhymes like "Poke it Out" and "Like It Hurt" to the subtle lyrical manipulation delivered in "Twisted" as well as the thought provoking "Catch A Vision". The infectious beats will even have grandma shifting and shaking. "Cat Action 25-8" is a mind boggling disease that will have everyone racing to the music stores for the cure. Sylk Smoov is back!!!
